Rare Specimens of Stamps at Jampex 2025 Exhibition
The recent “Jampex 2025” exhibition in Jamshedpur offered philately enthusiasts a remarkable journey through India’s postal history.
Held at Tulsi Bhawan and organized by the Jamshedpur Philatelic Society alongside the local postal department, the two-day event showcased over 100 frames of stamps, including several rare specimens.
Noteworthy exhibits featured the world’s first adhesive postage stamp, the Penny Black, and Independent India’s inaugural postage stamp. The display also included valuable lithograph one anna and four anna Indian postage stamps.
Visitors were particularly drawn to commemorative stamps highlighting significant moments in Indian history, such as the nation’s independence and the Ram temple in Ayodhya, with a historic stamp depicting Mahatma Gandhi standing out as a major attraction.
Beyond individual stamps, the exhibition presented stamp books, miniature sheets, albums, and stamp hinges, celebrating eminent personalities and historic occasions.
Ashok Kumar Tiwary, general secretary of the Jamshedpur Philatelic Society, emphasized the goal of educating attendees, especially the youth, about India’s postal heritage and promoting stamp collecting as a hobby.
To engage participants further, the event featured stamp drawing competitions and essay writing contests on the evolution of postal services.
The Jamshedpur postal department also set up information counters to highlight their various services, with Chief Postmaster General of Jharkhand Circle, Vidan Chandra Roy, noting the provision of financial and retail services, including a dedicated counter for stamp collectors seeking rare specimens.
