Darin Cherniwchan, a foremost advocate for digital philately in Canada, presented on the subject at CAPEX 22 on its inaugural day, June 9. He characterized digital philately from the viewpoint of what he termed “the 21st-century philatelist,” providing several suggestions for enthusiasts keen on integrating modern technology and viewpoints into their pastimes.
Darin Cherniwchan began by tracing the evolution of philately, contrasting the stamp approval packs and comic book promotions of the mid-1900s with today’s online shops and virtual gatherings.
“Over the last 20 to 30 years, the world has changed,” said Cherniwchan, of Chilliwack, B.C., who chairs the British North America Philatelic Society’s Digital Philately Study Group, which also met at CAPEX 22. “We have so much power at our fingertips now that we never had before, and I think it can be overwhelming to almost everyone.” Source: CSN
